Testimonial
"I wanted to take a moment to share my appreciation for Chaplain Kelsey MacPherson and the exceptional work she continues to do as the institutional chaplain at Edmonton Institution for Women.
Kelsey consistently provides a very high level of service, and what stands out to me most is how well versed she is in the cases across the institution. Kelsey is often reflecting a level of knowledge you would expect from a parole officer. She attends Warden’s Board weekly, represents cases as a true member of CMT, has an unreal memory, is well spoken and demonstrates true balance and insight specific to a correctional environment.
Her insight, professionalism, and genuine care are evident in everything she does.
In particular, during times of stress and trauma—like the incident we faced yesterday with the death of an inmate. Kelsey demonstrated incredible strength and composure. She provided outstanding support to the senior manager who was conducting a very difficult time of NOK notification, while always remaining mindful of her role and contractual obligations.
Kelsey also provided a strong post-incident support to the inmate population, working collaboratively alongside mental health professionals and Indigenous Initiatives. Her ability to connect, support, and advocate across these areas speaks volumes about her dedication and capability. Her approach with all staff and offenders is truly genuine and supportive of correctional plan progress.
Her presence during such difficult (and regular) moments is truly invaluable.
I can honestly say that in my 17 years of service, I have never worked with a more engaged and committed individual. Kelsey has demonstrated to me how to bridge different disciplines within the institution together into one; with care, support and understanding.
I feel truly honoured and fortunate to work alongside her and to have her as part of the EIFW team.
Yesterday would have been a very different incident recovery had she not been present.”
