Monty Lewis

Founder, Bridges of Canada

Monty Lewis

The Monty Lewis story is a dynamic testimony of the miraculous power of Jesus Christ! While lying naked, broken and hopeless in a solitary confinement cell in London, Ontario, Monty prayed a prayer of desperation. To his absolute amazement, God answered that prayer and touched him with His supernatural power! After spending years in and out of jails, detention centers, prisons and mental institutions, his life of crime and drug abuse was totally transformed.

Rev. Lewis, who sadly passed away on June 25, 2013, was the Director and Founder of Bridges of Canada Inc, a non-profit organization that works with those involved in the criminal justice system, as well as the founder of Bar None Christian Camp for inmate families, ex-offenders and children from less fortunate families.

Among his many honors, in November 1998 Rev. Lewis received from the Solicitor General of Canada the first ever award for Public Safety in Canada. He has also received a Peace Maker Award from The Correctional Service of Canada National Headquarters in Ottawa for making peace in the City of Fredericton and was an honorary member of the College of Craft and Design in Fredericton. He served on Interfaith Committee of Chaplaincy of Canada for 15 years. Rev. Lewis was a member of the Coalition of Prison Evangelists (COPE), served on their board and was a guest speaker at many of their national and international conferences.

In 2003, Rev. Monty Lewis received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in honor of his participation in Public Safety in having turned his life around for the better. In 2012 he received The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in honor of his significant contributions and achievements.

His life story has been published in English and French in a book entitled “The Caper” and has been distributed internationally. He has authored a training manual, “Can the Chaplain Do It Alone?” (1995). More recently in 2012, Rev. Lewis wrote a book, “God Still Speaks,” which tells the story how God spoke to him and fulfilled His word as He did for Abraham.
